Post Cyclone Call to Prayer

Watching as the deteriorating conditions of our sisters and their families in Burma (Myanmar) unfold before our eyes on the Internet, television news, and in the print media we can feel helpless and distressed. Recognizing by their government’s reluctance to allow aid workers into the country to bring life-saving assistance to those most affected by Cyclone Nargis we become aggravated and angry. As caring persons of faith we feel compelled to do something but can find ourselves with unanswered questions of why? what? and when?

The place to begin bringing aid to our sisters and their families is from the knees of our hearts. We have God’s promise to hear and answer our prayers. So on behalf of these “least of these” inhabitants of one of the poorest countries in the world, will you join Global Women and pray for:

·        The emotional stability of mothers who wait in long lines for food and clean water to sustain their children’s lives.

·        The physical health of women in the last months of pregnancy or in labor where only chaos and unsanitary conditions prevail.

·        The grieving women who cannot find family members and whose bamboo-constructed huts were washed away in the storm.

·        The availability of clothing for women to protect themselves and their families from the sun.

·        The access to food, water, shelter, and medical assistance.

·        The ability to believe God’s promise through the prophet Jeremiah to give the Burmese a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).

·        The on-going needs of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

·        The multiplying needs of refugees in the camps along the Thai-Burma border, especially the need for food.

·        The flood waters to subside and boats to reach people stranded in the Irawaddy Delta.

·        The freedom for Global Women partners, other Christian organizations and many relief workers to be able to enter the country to offer the love and mercy of Christ as they deliver much needed aid.

In addition to Global Women’s prayer response we are also accepting donations for a Burma Relief Fund. All money will be sent to Global Women ministry partners directly involved in relief in Burma as well as those working to meet the daily needs of persons living in refugee camps along the Thailand-Burma border. You can send your gifts to the Global Women office marked for Burma Relief or make a secure donation through our website.

Global Women has partnered with His Nets to purchase treated mosquito nets.  These nets, along with initial funds from Global Women will be delivered next week.  Please pray for Global Women partners who will enter the country to assess the needs and make the first of many deliveries to those in such need.
