Pray ♦ Give ♦ Go ♦ Do How to Become Involved with GW Projects When you give to Global Women (GW) you are supporting these projects and insuring that this movement will continue to reach out in friendship to profoundly unreached women worldwide with the love and mercy of Jesus Christ. Project: Central Asia Women’s Conference, March 2009, in Almaty, Kazakhstan Note: project proposal is pending approval from the Global Women Board of Directors. The goal of this project is to facilitate the development of friendships and to encourage spiritual growth among 100 Christian women from unreached people groups, to provide discipleship training and to organize the women to continue to support each other. This event will host women from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kirghizstan and Turkmenistan. The proposed budget for this project: $9,000 including travel expenses for the GW Executive Director to assist with the event. Pray: for strength and courage of their convictions for these isolated Christian women, for Godly friends and teachers, and the families of the women while they are at the conference, for safe travel, for openness to the Gospel as the women share their faith, for continued networking among the women, for wisdom for the conference planners and for openness from the Baptist Union to encourage work among the women. Give: financial support for the project, registration gifts bags, friendship gifts or conference supplies yet to be determined.Go: be an encourager, teacher, musician or photographer/videographer. Do: collect and assemble registration gift bags, conduct a prayer retreat during the days of the conference to pray for the women, investigate and help raise awareness of needs of women in Central Asia and/or seek out possible refugees in your community needing friendship. Project: New Sewing Business Initiative, Karakalpak Republic, Uzbekistan The goal of this project is to enable an indigenous Christian Woman, educated in social work and evangelism, to purchase four sewing machines, furniture and supplies to begin a small sewing business in her home. The business will provide an income for her family, for Christian women she can employ and will provide opportunities for underground church members to gather in her home without being arrested for gathering as a church. In her society, a sewing business is needed, and has the potential of being quite successful. This woman and her husband are committed to stay in the town unlike many others who seek jobs outside their home country. Proposed budget for this project: $1,925. Pray: for this woman, anonymous to protect herself and her family, who lives in a Muslim dominated society where Christians place their lives in danger to meet in house churches. Pray for the health of pregnant women, commonly suffering from anemia, which results in giving birth to weak babies. Pray for physical safety for believers, for the success of the sewing business and the 15,000 in this town which has a very high poverty rate. Pray for hope for this woman and others like her who live in a dark, hopeless world. Give: financial support for the project, fabric and sewing supplies and possibly additional sewing machines. Go: organize and lead a Global Women encouragement trip to Uzbekistan. Contact the GW office for information. Do: organize a sewing or other craft group. Meet to pray for this woman and other Central Asian Social Work students from The School of Theology in Moldova for Christian Leadership and their economic development projects. Sell your hand-made items and donate the funds to this project.
Project: Kazakhstan Women’s Conference, August, 2008, in Skymkent, Kazakhstan Note: project proposal is pending approval from the Global Women Board of Directors. The goal of this project is to equip women to address some of the cultural, social and spiritual challenges they face and to educate women to help eliminate sexual trafficking. Proposed budget for this project: $8,000 including travel expenses for the GW Executive Director to lead a small group to participate in the conference. Pray: for women who attend the conference to find the needed encouragement and friendship to sustain them in their Christian growth and for conference arrangements to come together in spite of logistical challenges. Give: financial support of the project, registration gifts bags, friendship gifts or items yet to be determined for the conference. Go: as an encourager or teacher (basic health care, parenting, trafficking awareness) offering friendship to the women who attend this conference. Upon returning help raise awareness of the situation of the women, raise funds for the Central Asia Women’s Conference in March 2009 and enlist women to attend that event. Do: collect and assemble registration gift bags and/or conduct a prayer retreat during the days of the conference to pray for the women. Project: Sexual Trafficking Prevention in Kishinau (Chisinau), Moldova The goal of this project is to prevent young people from being sexually trafficked. Support is given for work directed by Yulia Ubeivolc and her social ministry team, which includes training programs offered in area high schools. The budget for this project: $6,160. Pray: for the abolition of sexual trafficking and for employment and higher education opportunities for the young people. Pray for the needs of those who have been trafficked and for their families who do not know where their loved ones are. Go: senior high and college aged girls to attend the presentations and develop friendships with the students and volunteers to research teen appropriate materials available in Russian. Do: talk to youth in your church, community, and/or civic groups about sexual trafficking, participate in the Salvation Army’s annual Weekend of Prayer and Fasting to stop sexual trafficking, and/or hold a graduation party for senior high students in your church/community and donate the equivalent amount for graduation celebrations in Moldova. The goal of this project is to equip church leaders with information and tools to raise the level of awareness about sexual trafficking in their churches and communities. The budget for this project: $1,200. Pray: for churches to acknowledge the prevalence of sexual trafficking, for church and community leaders to fight trafficking, for the creation of jobs, for those who have been trafficked, and for wisdom for youth and their parents to avoid being trafficked. Give: financial support for the project, supply creative ideas and materials to teach youth and age and language appropriate teaching aids such as brochures, DVDs and books. Go: experienced counselors, social workers, educators, youth leaders, and teachers to assist with the training and offer encouragement to workers. Do: advocate for the abolition of sexual trafficking and encourage education, awareness, and training on sexual trafficking in your church and community. Project: Women’s Leadership Development Center of the Myanmar Baptist Convention The goal of this project is to assist in the community health training program and meet other needs of the center. Proposed budget for this project: $4,500. [This project has been funded for 2008.] Pray: for the political unrest in Burma (Myanmar), for the equipment and supplies to meet health care needs, for the safety and basic needs of refugees living on the run and for the Christian leaders to remain strong and have hope. Give: additional funds to have available as a contingency for this work, birthing kits and first aid supplies. If volunteers are able to minister in the country more specific supply and equipment needs may be known in preparation for their travel. Go: healthcare professionals to teach in the classes. Do: become educated about the conditions in Burma (Myanmar) and advocate for needed changes, become aware of refugees from Burma who may be living in your community and ways you can minister to these. Project: Zoe Center of Yangon Karen Baptist Women’s Association in Burma (Myanmar) The goal of this project is to assist in the community health training program and meet other needs of the center. Proposed budget for this project: $2,500. [This project has been funded for 2008.] Pray: for the political unrest in Burma (Myanmar) and for the Christian leaders to remain strong and have hope and opportunities for economic development. Give: supplies when volunteers can enter the country again. Go: teach, develop friendships and encourage other Christian women. Project: Pwo Karen Baptist Women’s Association in Burma (Myanmar) The goal of this project is to assist with their nurse training program and other projects as needed. Proposed budget for this project: $750. [This project has been funded for 2008.] Pray: for the political unrest in Burma (Myanmar) and for the Christian leaders to remain strong and have hope and opportunities for economic development. Give: supplies as needed when volunteers can enter the country again. Go: teach, develop friendships and encourage other Christian women. Project: Pathein Sqaw Baptist Women’s Association in Burma (Myanmar) The goal of this project is to assist with their nurse training program and other projects as needed. Proposed budget for this project: $750. [This project has been funded for 2008.] Pray: for the political unrest in Burma (Myanmar) and for the Christian leaders to remain strong and have hope and opportunities for economic development. Give: supplies as needed when volunteers can enter the country again. Go: teach, develop friendships and encourage other Christian women. Project: Institute for Latina Leadership of the Baptist University of the Americas The goal of this project will be to promote the discovery, development, and nurturance of women leaders from a Latina perspective through formal trainings as well as research and publications. Through a three year training program BUA students will receive BA credit for the first January term. After the three year process, they will receive a Certificate in Leadership that can be used as continuing education units. Proposed budget for the project is: $1,000. [The three-day event is held in January and 2008 funding has been secured.] Pray: for the women who have begun this training program, for their needs as students and for places of service upon graduation. Give: registration gift bags and hand-written notes of encouragement. Go: teaching opportunities as well as chances to offer friendship and encouragement may be available for January 2009. Contact the GW office for additional information. Do: identify Latina and other international women in your community and seek ways to offer friendship and learn about their experiences. Consider inviting them to speak at your International Women's Day observance.
